Impact of Hypertonic Glucose on ADH and Urine Volume
Questionpatient is dehydrated, so she is prescribed intravenous fluids. A attending nurse became distracted and erroneously gives the patient a hypertonic glucose solution instead of normal saline. What effect will this mistake have on the patient's plasma levels of ADH and urine volume?
Answerthis one is too tough for me.... it prob will raise ADH and produce marked increase in urine volume by inducing false hyperglycemia and pulling a lot of fluid and glucose out of the blood. The excess glucose basically is filtered in the kidneys and drags fluid out with it and the kidney ADH loop will respond by trying to couteract that by raising ADH.... I think...
