Understanding Medical Comas & Recovery After MRSA Infection
Questionmy sister was put in a medicinal coma for about 2 weeks while she recovered from contracting MRSA. She had had her cathiter (sp) switched from one side to the other and the infection quickly spread .. they were actually able to control the infection with several types of antibiotics .. however she had renal damage and had dialysis for about a week, she was also on a breathing tube ..FINALLY she was taken out of the coma slowly and also off the ventilater .. HOWEVER it has been four days where she is alert with her eyes but doesn't seem to recognize my voice over the phone or her husband in person ... they have done a ct scan and they say there is no damage, but I am very worried about the lack of response at this point .. any feedback on recovery time and mental state after this ? thanks SO MUCH for your time.
Answerthere is such a wide variety of possibilities.... the brain is incredibly resilient so hopefully she will recover a lot of her function.... I don't know if I can predict anything.... they have to sedate people very heavily while on a breathing tube and these drugs may take a few days to wear off so her head clears...... I hope she does well....
