QuestionHello,
My parents and I are seeking information about my dad. He has had a high CPK of over 300 for 3 years now. He was on lipitor, and was taken off when he experienced many of the side effects of the drug. This was 2 1/2 years ago. He is a very strong rugged man and has lost a lot of muscle, and sometimes he can't even get up on his own at 54 yrs old.
He gets regularly tested but his Dr didn't even bother to call him to tell him that his cpk was still high. He assumed that no call meant good news.
Do you have any info for me on what could be causing the cpk to remain so high, as well as possible avenues to research, and what type of doctor we should see? We are all worried about him and would really appreciate any information you can give.
Thank you
AnswerI am not sure what type of doctor your father is seeing but I qwould suggest having your Dad be seen by a specialist. His doctor should be explaining things and answering any questions you may have. I personally am never comfortable with a physician who is not willing to answer questions or explain test results.
There are several websites you can visit but I recommend taking your father to a Internist that specializes in cardiology or rheumatology. Elevated CPK's can be indicative of several different things and sometimes the results of medication side effects.
Since I am not a physician I cannot attempt to diagnose........the side effects from the lipitor should be gone by now but that is something that needs medical attention.
Remember as a ptient your Dad has a right to know and have questions answered.
