Rib Cage Pain: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor

Question
hello,
for the past 2 weeks i have been experiencing pain under my left ribcage in the front, where the bottom of the ribs would be, feals like someone keeps blowing up a baloon under my ribs and moving it around. doesnt seem to be better or worse after i eat or after a bowel movement just kind of comes and goes through out the day. seems to be worse with sitting and much better with laying down. i have tried to palpate there and nothing seems tender, i was wondering if this sounds like a pancreas or spleen problem? i dont seem to have any other symptoms. it doesnt seem to be getting better with time it actuially started out much milder. i have been worried it is pancreatic cancer or something of the sort with the spleen or pancreas. i know also the colon loop is in that area so i thought maybe bowel obstruction but i am moving my bowels and have gas, any suggestions on what it could be? should i go to the er? when i called my pcp they didnt seem concerened. i am a 29 female, recently quit smoking right after these pains started and about 15lbs overweight. i have been avoiding caffine etc but nothing seems to help yet. the pain does sometimes radiate twoards the back of the ribs but seems to mostly stay in the area at the bottom of the ribs under the breast.

Answer
these kind of pains are common and usually do not amount to anything.... a temporary problem in the colon that resolves.... the chances of something bad like pancreatic cancer is very very rare.  Some other warning signs would be urinary tract symptoms, weight loss, fever, nausea and vomiting.... if any of that occurs.... check with pcp and have them look you over...... good luck with it.
