QuestionI read about a young girl that had a tumor surgically removed. I looked up the definition of tumors, but the answers are confusing me. OK, not the same as cancer, if I understand it right, the body growing more cells than needed, but did not say the body is doing this. Because the tumor seems to "know" how to connect to blood vessels and other things to insure it's life. Or is it something different; like an organism growing inside of the human body. If you could give a bit more detail, that would be appreciated.
AnswerA tumor or tumour is commonly used as a synonym for a neoplasm (a solid or fluid-filled (cystic) lesion that may or may not be formed by an abnormal growth of neoplastic cells) that appears enlarged in size.[1] Tumor is not synonymous with cancer. While cancer is by definition malignant, a tumor can be benign, pre-malignant, or malignant, or can represent a lesion without any cancerous potential whatsoever.
