Trouble with IVs? Vein Fragility & Best Insertion Sites

Question
My veins blow extremely easy, even when given an IV at the hospital. What sites would IV not intramuscular injections be the least likely to blow? The veins on my wrist or the tops of my hands?

Answer
"Blow" is not really a correct word... the problem is trouble distending the vein so you get the IV in without poking through the side or back and out again..... sometimes it takes patience and time..... Often we are rushed, but if you take fifteen minutes for prep.... run your hands under very warm water or pack a hand in a hot wet towel for several minutes will fool your body into opening up those veins and increasing blood supply to that area making them easier targets.....   things that make it worse are smoking, a lot of caffeine or being dehydrated.......
