Paternity Identification: Understanding Potential Fathers & Timeline

Question
i have done a pregnancy test and got a positive result. i have been having 29 day cycles, and the date of my last period was on saturday the 29th of september. i had sex with  person 1 on friday the 12th october, then had sex with person 2 on monday 15th october in the afternoon. on wednesday 24th october i had an implantation bleed. is there any chance you could tell me who the father is likely to be?

Answer
Unfortunately, your sexual encounters were too close together to determine paternity based on dates. You could have conceived anytime between those dates and either man has an equal chance of being the father.

I highly recommend scheduling a DNA paternity test with the hospital when you pre-register. Many hospitals in the United States offer this service. In addition, you may also want to go ahead and seek legal advice so when the father is pinpointed with the DNA test, you can establish child support and visitation rights quickly. You'll be too busy caring for your newborn to spend the time and energy this may take.

In the meantime, I recommend that you tell both men you are pregnant and either one of them could be the father. In addition, you need to tell them both that there is a good chance another man is as well and they both have a 50/50 shot.

Best wishes and good luck,
Helen
