Question
after giving birth very quickly to my little girl 4 years ago i started to lose an awful lot of blood whilst taking a a shower about 1hr after, the nurses carried me back to the bed where after alot of commotion they decided i needed to go for surgery as i had a tear in my cervix it turned out i had a second degree tear but thats all they could tell me as they later lost my notes will this affect me getting pregnant or could this happen again next time as i would like to try for another child but dont want to go through that again

Answer
Dear Emma

You can definitely try having another baby with no major drawbacks. However, it is important to be aware that your cervical injury healed by fibrous tissue and therefore, your cervix might not be elastic as a normal cervix. This may affect the process of cervical dilatation during labor, which largely depends upon elasticity of the cervix, with higher possibilities for cesarean section for the cervix being not able to full dilate.

It is also important to be aware of the type of your cervical injury and whether it extended to the lower uterine segment or not. Such extension warrants more frequent antenatal visits in your next pregnancy and may require early induction of labor for fear of rupture of uterus or a similar repeat injury.
