QuestionMy LPM was May 31. I had sex with my fiance for the first time on June 3.
We had sex again on June 5th , 7th and 10th. We were to be married July 12
and since he is 41 we decided to just let conception happen when it did. I felt
breast changes on the night of June 16th. I believed I was pregnant as of that
date. I am very familiar with my body and have been pregnant before. I
waited to test until until June 23 and June 24. The test directions said I could
test 5 days before my period was due. My cycles are between 25 and 28 days
in length. Both test were positive. My fiance broke off the engagement two
days after. He does not believe the baby could not be his because there is
no way I could not have known so early. I have since had two clinically
administered urine tested that were both positive. I have an ultra sound
scheduled for August 8. I will be just a day short of 10 weeks from my LPM.
Will this ultra sound give an accurate determination of conception? How far
off could the dating be? If he waits until after the baby is born to test for
paternity he will miss out on participating in the pregnancy and birth which is
heart breaking since this is his first and only child...
AnswerAt 10 weeks gestation, an ultrasound should be accurate for dating to within 3-5 days. Your fiance should also be aware that a pregnancy can test positive on urine sample as early as 8 days post-ovulation, depending on the sensitivity of the test and the amount of pregnancy hormone your body produces. Since intercourse up to 24 hours after ovulation can still result in pregnancy, that means you could test positive on a sensitive home pregnancy test in as little as one week.
