Understanding Period Irregularities After Childbirth: A Guide for Lactating Mothers
QuestionHi!
I want to ask. What irregularities (TIME DELAY ) can be encountered in periods for lactating mothers.
regards.
AnswerMenstruation during lactation is extremely variable, and pretty much anything short of menorrhagia (very heavy bleeding) or extremely short cycles (<21 days) is considered normal. Some women get regular cycles back just 6-8 weeks after giving birth, even while exclusively breastfeeding. Other women may not see a period until a month or two after their baby fully weans, even if that is 2 years later. In between, you may see your period at any time, and it may be regular or irregular until after weaning.
If you have any concerns about getting pregnant again, you should either monitor your fertility using sympto-thermal charting methods, or you should talk to your doctor about barrier or hormonal (progesterone-only) birth control. Even if you don't mind getting pregnant soon, charting your fertility may be wise so that you can be aware of a pregnancy if/when it happens and be sure of your dates.
