Postpartum Bleeding & Menstruation: What to Expect After Childbirth

Question
I was just wondering when can i have my menstruation after i gave birth last sept 9. however i had sexed with my husband last week nov. 7 using withdrawal method and breastfed to my baby for 1 mo. but the milk was totally gone last week of october. Is the sex safe? or advisable to take medicine to get menstruation? pls advise. thanks.

Answer
Even if you're breastfeeding, you can get pregnant if you don't use a form of contraception (the "withdrawal" method isn't a form of contraception as even pre-ejaculate contains viable sperm). If you haven't had a period yet, I recommend you see your doctor. He/she will give you a pregnancy test and then recommend hormonal birth control to get your periods regulated if you're not pregnant.

Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.

Best wishes,
Helen =)
