Pregnancy After Pelvic Fracture: Risks & Considerations

Question
I am a 33 year old healthy, active female.  I got into a car accident last November and suffered a vertical shear pelvic fracture. I was 37 pregnant at the time and delivered my son via emergency c section.  My pelvic fracture was treated with internal fixation, so I have one titanium plate across my pubis and two screws in the left side.  I am about six weeks pregnant and am assuming I will need another c-section.  Other than that, should I expect any complications.  I just want to do everything possible to have a healthy baby.  After the last disaster, you can see how I might be a bit frightened.

Thanks!

Answer
As long as you healed well after your first section, everything should go relatively smoothly. If they want to do a "trial of labor" before the section (which is actually better for the baby), you may want to lay on your right side or on a pillow at an angle and not on your back or left side (as you want to keep pressure off your back for your own comfort).

Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.

Best wishes,
Helen =)
