Unexpected Bleeding After Stopping Birth Control: What to Know

Hi,

I have already had my period on July 14-19. I have been on Orthro-Novum for about a month and ran out of pills so quit taking them. Now its the 27th and today I noticed I was bleeding heavy. I already had my period. Could that be caused by stopping the birth control? I was worried and didn't know why I would be doing that. Thanks.

Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your question. This situation could be because of you stopping the birth control. The hormones from the pills can affect your normal cycle. I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control method. This could be one of the side effects. Do you need to be on birth control at all?
