Early Periods & Birth Control: What to Do?

Question
I have been on birth control for about 10 months and last month I started my period a week earlier than I should have but I continued to take my pills as usual.  This month again I started my period about 3 days early.  Should I continue to take the pills as usual or should I skip the week of placebo pills and move straight on to another pack?  Also, could this mean that my birth control is not working?

Answer
You are experiencing break through bleeding which is normal. Take your pills as you usually would. If this happens a lot (break through bleeding) you could ask your doctor for a pill with a higher dosage of oestrogen, that should stop the unwanted bleeding.

Good luck!
