QuestionI have wanted to find out about birth control for years now. I just felt to embarrassed to ask.
So, my questions are:
1. Does birth control help with severe cramps?
2. How much does birth control cost?
3. Is it ok to not tell my parents I am on birth control for judgmental reasons?
4. What is the best time of day to take birth control?
5. Is it true it helps acne?
my family is very conspicuous about birth control. I am still a virgin, but as I have wondered about birth control for a while, they do not believe me. I have HORRIBLY painful cramps and very heavy bleeding. I was told it will stop pregnancy and in addition help with those two problems. Do you recommend one type of birth control over the other?
It would be GREAT HELP if you answer there questions for me.
Thanks!
AnswerHello Kassandra,
1. 90% of women get excellent relief of severe cramps from the birth control pill.
2. I believe the pill can cost from $$25-40 per month. It will be less using generics, and less if bought for 3 months at a time.
3. In the US, a minor can legally get birth control without parental permission. If possible, it's a decision best made with parents, but you're the one to decide.
4. The best time to take the pill is whatever time you'll be less likely to forget. Often this means when brushing teeth just before bed.
5. The pill helps acne for most women. There are certain pills that help acne more.
The pill is the best treatment we have for severe menstrual cramps and heavy periods. It's one of the most effective methods of birth control. The decision about whether to start and which pill to take is usually best made with a doctor. Most likely any combined (estrogen plus progesterone - the usual birth control pill) pill will work very well for you.
