how long does it actually take for the birth control to be fully in effect. I've been taking mine for about a month now and I'm on my second pack still in the top row.  I'm taking the 28-day ALESSE bc and my boyfriend and I have encountered some time where we've thought about haveing sex without a condom but we weren't sure if it was safe yet so I was just wondering exactly when it was safe to have unprotected sex.

it's usually advisable to wait until a full cycle is completed. although you shouldn't just worry about a possible pregnancy, but also about std's and sti's which aren't avoided with the pill. you should both get tested for std's before you engane in unprotected intercourse.
