Infertility Concerns: Understanding Delayed Conception After a Previous Pregnancy
QuestionI am 24 years old and i have a 3 year old son. I'm actually not pregnant but thats the question i wanted to talk about. I have been tryin for almost a year now to get pregnant again and of course as you know it hasn't happened yet. i was wondering why this is happening my first child was simple. i was off the pill and month and i was pregnant. i have been off the pill for awhile now and still haven't been able to get pregnant. i've even taken an ovulation test and had sex at the right times. i've laid down just in case it helps. i have lost some weight as i fear i may be overweight now and that may be causing it. but still no success with that. this is uncommon in my family the longest anyone has taken was 3 months. i hope its not my husband although besides smoking which i know is bad hes in very good health. he is 25 years old. i really didn't want my children so far apart and now they are really going to be far apart i think. i'm trying to eat healthier and take better care of myself. which i have been doing for a couple months and still nothing. anyway i was wondering if you had any advice or if i should go see my doctor yet. i know it takes awhile but its still frustrating. especially when my son came very quickly. thank you for your time. sincerely, shara.
AnswerHow long have you been off the pill? We usually do not start a workup until you have been trying to conceive for a full year (that is only 12 days of ovulation). You appear to be doing everything correctly. As long as you are getting your period regularly, you probably are ovulating. I would suggest that you continue what you are doing and, if you have no success after 12 months, consult your doctor, who will begin an infertility workup. Since you have had a baby, it is unlikely that anything occurred to prevent you from conceiving again. Just relax and keep trying. Don't get frustrated because you have not conceived within three months.
