Birth Control Delay & Potential Pregnancy: What Should I Do?

Question
I am quite young, only 17, and my situation is complicated.

I was supposed to start my new pack of birth control on a Sunday, the 5th of November to be exact. However, there were complications with the prescription so I had to wait until the next Tuesday, November 7th to begin my pills. I took the two missed pills immediately and took the one for that day at my normal time a few hours later. Now, on Monday and on Tuesday I did have sex with my steady boyfriend. We did not use protection, for some reason, but he did pull out and he always does before he ever completely finishes, even when I am fully protected by the pills. Now, I am EXTREMELY worried about pregnancy. I consulted my mother and she said I don't have much to worry about since my period ended that same Sunday morning that I was supposed to begin the new pack. She says the egg would not be ready so soon. But I am afraid it is different for women on birth control, right? By missing those pills, even if it were one or two days following my period, am I at any risk? Please write back...I just want to know how ovulation works on birth control and how it works when you are off it...no one ever really explained that to me.

Answer
Hello,
I emailed you back on Nov. 14 and it's the 24 today and I haven't heard back from you. Did you receive this following email?
Hi Melissa,
I'm not a medical doctor but I have had several years of research on this subject. Each brand of pill is different and has different ways of working and different hormonal effects. So if you could email me back at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com I might be able to do more research on your particular brand. You could have a possibility of pregnancy according to your story. Even if you take the pill perfectly correctly, there is still a percentage of pregnancy. And if not taken exactly correctly, a little higher percentage. The only way of being 100% sure of not getting pregnant is abstinence. Some birth control pills stop ovulation. If you want to find a free pregnancy test center, go to http://www.optionline.org
They could also advise you how long to wait to get the pregnancy test. Hope to hear from you soon. Oh, and I always suggest checking in with your personal physician about any health concerns.
