QuestionI'm 16, and my boyfriend and I have just started having sex about a month ago. I'm on the pill, and we have used a condom almost all the time, and EVERY time, he pulled out well before he ejaculated. However, I'm still concerned about pregnancy.
How likely is it that I could be pregnant?
Is it common to have a late period in the first few months a girl is on the pill?
Thank you very much.
AnswerThe birth control pill is 99.9% effective in preventing pregnancy, so if you are using the pill, you do not need any other form of birth control, unless you want to be protected against STDs. The condom is only 85% effective against pregnancy. The withdrawal method (pull-out method) does not work at all. There are 300,000 sperm at the tip of the penis prior to ejaculation. If he tried to withdraw before he ejaculated, these sperm can be milked out into the vagina as he tried to pull out, and if you were in your feretile time of the month, you could get pregnant. However, since you were on the pill and used a condom, it highly unlikely that you are pregnnat, as long as it was more than 14 days after you started the pill. Once you start the pill, ot may take a few months before you have regular periods. However, if you are more than 1 week late for your period, I would still suggest a pregnancy test.
