Post-BCP Weight Gain & Recovery: Understanding the Timeline
QuestionI have been on yasmin for past eight months and have gained about 20 pounds, plus had to take zoloft for the week of non-hormonal, sugar pills. I have gained 20 pounds, i felt lazy, fat, tired all the time and mean. Around the 20th of October, i got off everything. Personality wise i feel better, but, I still have not had a period and I am not pregnant. So how come I am not losing the weight? How long will it take to lose the weight? It was so quickly gained. Is there a way to get it quickly off? When will I have a normal menstrual period again? What kind of time frame am i looking at? I feel so bloated and swollen every where. My face is swollen and my jeans and skirts don't fit me anymore. I am use to being tiny. I have NEVER been this big, and I have had 2 kids. I need to get back to my small size or i am going to lose my job all together. My looks is how I make my money. I would have never gotten on any of this at all if the doctor would have for warned me of all these complications and problems.
AnswerHello.. I emailed you back on Nov. 16th but I haven't heard back from you. I hope all is well. I'm a little concerned. Did you get this below email? Please let me know.
Hi Kristi,
I'm so glad that you are getting off the birth control pill. I would recommend that you check with your physician about your questions and get guidance. Weight gain is a side effect of the pill but unfortunately, doctors do not warn women of the harmful side effects of the pill or even just the annoying ones. I don't recommend any kind of birth control method except condoms (not very effective) and Natural Family Planning. I'm not sure about the answer to when you can expect to lose weight. Can you get a check up with your doctor? It usually takes about 3-6 months to get your cycle regulated again. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and tell me what happens.
