QuestionI understand you are not a Dr. but am looking to hear your opinion about my situation. I stopped my Birth Control (Yasmin) 3 months ago. The first month I did not get a period, second month I got a brown discharge for 5 or 6 days, and this month I got the brown discharge again for 6 or 7 days, cramps, pms symptoms and one day had a insignificant amount of blood along with the brown discharge. I am anxious to get a regular period since my husband and I are looking to conceive. My Dr. perscribed the MEDROXYPROGESTERONE pill and I am to take it for 7 days and my period should come after the 7th day. However, I know that this pill is used as a birth control and the bottle states not to take it if you're planning on becoming pregnant. Any ideas as to how long it takes to leave your system after the 7th day? How long should I wait to conceive after I get that period? If I try 2 weeks after I get my period - would that be dangerous to my fetus? Please advise.
Thank you,
Magy
AnswerYour doctor probably put you on the new pill to try to get your cycles to return.
Here is my advice on coming off the pill and trying to get pregnant which is on the login page.
Let me answer in two parts. First when 100 couples try to get pregnant, no pills, no birth control, at the end of a year 80 will be pregnant. Some get pregnant the first month, some the second month, etc. It is impossible to predict which couple will get pregnant when. The 20 couples not pregnant after a year are considered infertile and usually go for medical help. You can't tell where you are until you try.
Now second, coming off the pill is similar. Some women return to normal cycling with no problem, others take sometime to resume normal cycling. You can't predict what will happen because all women are different.
So putting the two issues together, coming off the pill, first you will have to resume a "normal" cycle, then you will have to try to get pregnant. I suggest monitoring fertility will increase your understanding of all this and your confidence that your body is working correctly. Check http://www.irh.org/nfp.htm

Be sure to try to get a teacher to work with you until you really understand your fertility.
