Depo-Shot Side Effects: Bleeding & Irregular Periods - Expert Insights

Question
My daughter got the depot shot over a year ago. she was given one shot the Dr wouldn't give it to her again because it made her bleed alot. She is now how periods almost ever 5 to 10 days. She has No insurance to get advice. Have you heard if this is common? She has gone on the birth control pill also but went off it saying it didn't help. Could her hormones just be so mixed up that is the cause.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical doctor so always check with your or her physician. This concerns me that she is having periods and bleeding so often. This could be dangerous if she loses too much blood and causes anemia. I would advise a second medical opinion. Perhaps it is true that the hormones have made her irregular. I would advise a natural or prolife doctor as most doctors put women on birth control without realizing the research that has been coming out recently about hormonal risks and problems. You could try a pregnancy resource center near you and see if they could advise you to a referral to a doctor. http://www.optionline.org or call 1-800-395-HELP or http://www.heartbeatinternational.org/worldwide_directory.asp

Hope this helps. My email address is DCHERYL51@yahoo.com if you want to talk more. P.S. Does she really need to be on any kind of birth control?

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
