QuestionI've been having problems with irregular bleeding and it is starting to get
ridiculous. I am currently taking Femcon, which I have been taking for about
seven months. Before that, I was on Depoprovera for about nine months. I
switched because I had irregular bleeding everyday from about a month after
my first shot. Soon after I started taking Femcon, the irregular bleeding
subsided and I was just having my period on the inactive week. After a
couple months, the bleeding started to come during the third week of active
pills and last until the end of the inactive week. This has gone on until just
this month, when the bleeding has started during the second active week. I'm
bleeding more as time goes on, not less.
The gist of this is that the only thing I can think to do is to switch drugs again.
I've heard that low dose pills cause less irregular bleeding, but I've also heard
reports that they're less effective at preventing pregnancy.
I'm really desperate here! I just want to go back to spending more time not
bleeding than bleeding, but I still want to have reliable pregnancy protection.
AnswerFemcon is a low dose pill, although there are others that are lower dose. All the birth control pills currently on the market are very effective to prevent pregnancy as long as they are taken as directed. Sometimes it takes a switch to a different pill to resolve bleeding such as yours. Sometimes the bleeding is from something other than the pill or the shot. You need to see a good OB/GYN who will work with you to find what to do to get your bleeding normal. Good luck.
