Birth Control Pill After Depo-Provera: Safety & Timing

Question
Hi, I have been taking Depo-Provera since last July.  I had a shot in January and am due for one in the middle of April.  I have had a lot of spotting the whole time.  I started bleeding again last weekend and started back on my birth control pills this Sunday.

I realize I should have thought about this before I started, but now I'm wondering if it's harmful to go back on the pill while I still have a month of Depo-Provera left?  I thought maybe it wasn't working very well, because I thought I wasn't supposed to have a period with it, but maybe that's normal?

I really appreciate your taking the time to answer my question.

Thank you.

Olive

Answer
Hello Olive,

Thanks for your question. I'm not sure if it is good/healthy for you to be taking the pill and depo as well. I would advise you to call your doctor and find out the answer to this just to be safe. I can do some more research if you like. Just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and we can talk more. Put ALLEXPERTS in the subject line of your email.

I usually don't recommend hormonal birth control. I have studied this for quite a few years and I have learned about many side effects and problems using hormonal birth control methods. I can tell you more about this if you email me. Please consider going off depo and trying something more natural. Also consider abstinence, depending on your life situation. Hope to hear from you soon.
