Essure and Pregnancy: What to Do If You Suspect Conception

Question
I GOT THE ESSURE BIRTH CONTROL PUT IN AT THE END OF JANUARY. MY DOCTOR SAID NOT TO HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX FOR 3 MONTHS UNTIL THE DYE TEST IS DONE. WELL ME AND MY HUSBAND HAD A PARTY ON SAT 3-14 AND GOT REALLY DRUNK, WE HAD UNPROTECTED SEX. COULD I BE PREGNANT? WHAT SHOULD I DO? HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON.

Answer
As you are aware, it takes up to 3 months for the scar tissue to form after the Essure procedure, so that the tube is closed.  I have not been able to find information on pregnancies occurring before the 3 months is up.  However, the chance of getting pregnant from one intercourse is low, even without something blocking your tubes.  Since you had about 6 weeks for the blockage to occur, I think there is little chance of pregnancy.  If you were not at midcycle it is even lower.  You'll probably have to wait for your next period, and if it doesn't come when due, then get a pregnancy test.  Chances are you're not pregnant.
