Missed Birth Control Pill: What To Do & Risks

Dear Dianna,

I an emailing you with this question.  I know that if a pill is missed, for the whole day, the procedure, (I read is to wait 7 days, before having sex (unprotected), but what if the pill is not taken at the same time every day.  Is there a risk?

My finace' had thrown up her pill, we had waited 8 days, before having intercourse, and now she may be late.  Although there is a lot of stress in her life, and this could also account for it being late, (or so that is what I am led to believe)  Could you please shed some light on this for me?

The pill needs to be taken within a two hour window everyday. Taking it outside this window diminishes its effectiveness. In your situation I wouldn't worry too much about pregnancy. Just wait this one out. Remember that you can use condoms even though she is on the pill!
