IUD Removal & Replacement: What to Know & Potential Concerns

Question
I went to my gynecologist to have my IUD removed and to have another replaced.

He replaced the IUD really quickly (and it really hurt) and said all done. I asked if he had removed the my original IUD and he said "there was another one in there" and I said yes and told him to look at the ultrasound i had a few weeks prior to this... He then tried to convince me that i would have double the protection and that this was a good thing (which i know is a bold faced lie).

I know that this will not result in double the protecting and I have not gone back for a follow up with him, but i would like to know what complications can arise from having two IUDs.

Answer
I don't know the complications but I'm sure this is not healthy. I will do some research and see what I find out. I think you probably should have insisted that he remove the other IUD but I imagine you were probably in shock and dismayed. Yes, I would get a different doctor.
