IUD Removal & Replacement: What to Know & Potential Concerns
QuestionI went to my gynecologist to have my IUD removed and to have another replaced.
He replaced the IUD really quickly (and it really hurt) and said all done. I asked if he had removed the my original IUD and he said "there was another one in there" and I said yes and told him to look at the ultrasound i had a few weeks prior to this... He then tried to convince me that i would have double the protection and that this was a good thing (which i know is a bold faced lie).
I know that this will not result in double the protecting and I have not gone back for a follow up with him, but i would like to know what complications can arise from having two IUDs.
AnswerI don't know the complications but I'm sure this is not healthy. I will do some research and see what I find out. I think you probably should have insisted that he remove the other IUD but I imagine you were probably in shock and dismayed. Yes, I would get a different doctor.
