Lost IUD: What Happens When It Can't Be Located?

Question
I had the Mirena IUD placed in Aug 05, a month later I went back for the check up to make sure it was there and my doctor couldn't find it. I ended up going to have a ultrasound or sonogram done and they found it. But now I want it removed because I am ready to get pregnant. I went to have it removed 2 weeks ago and my doctor once again couldn't find it. What will have to be done if they can't find it? I am scared. I am also wondering if since it apparently isn't in the correct spot, can it damage anything inside me to where it would make me not be able to have children? Thank you for your time and advice.    Jana

Answer
You probably need a second opinion. Do you have health insurance? If so call your insurance company and ask them what to do. They should be willing to send you to another OB/GYN who will take the IUD out. I suggest that you do need to get the IUD removed.
