AnswerG'day, Sarah,
Having an abortion isn't normal to begin with. So it makes no sense to talk about whether what you are experiencing is normal. Are menstrual disturbances common after abortion? Yes.
I would recommend that you have your body checked out, because a light black discharge might mean that you were injured in some way.
You should test for pregnancy. If your HCG levels are still high, you won't have a period until they decline to the non-pregnant level. Sometimes they stay high for quite awhile. In general, the best thing to do is consult a doctor. Since abortion is dangerous, being checked out would be a wise thing to do. There are also long term consequences, so if you later become pregnant, your doctor will need to know that you had an abortion so that he can safeguard your baby as much as possible. Surgical abortion damages the cervix, which may not be able to carry the weight of a full term baby. The remedy is to fasten the cervix shut until time for birth. Without this, you could have a miscarriage, or a very early birth, and very early birth tends to cause birth defects. Also, you will be a high risk patient for birth and wouldn't be able to have a homebirth. Again, the doctor can take the appropriate steps to make sure both of you are OK. Whatever you do, don't have another abortion in the future, because each additional abortion just does more damage.
You should also be vigilant about breast cancer if this was your first child, especially. Mammograms are not a good idea. A regular thermogram would be wise. If you have close relatives who have had breast cancer, the risk becomes a virtual certainty. The best remedy I am aware of is Vitamin D3 supplements, and a woman needs to have her blood tested periodically to make sure the Vitamin D levels are within normal range.
So please go see your doctor (not the person who did the abortion) and get everything checked out. Let me know what you find out, and please stay safe!
