Post-Abortion Period Irregularities: What to Expect & When to Worry

Hi Diane,
I had an abortion about 9 months ago. It was a vacuum procedure at about 8-9 weeks. However, I have not had any regular periods after that. At first, it was spotting before my period comes for a few months, and 2+ months ago, my doctor prescribe me some birth control pills. The period came normal after I stopped for 3 days and the period lasted for about a week. After that, I haven't had any period at all for more than 2 months now. Is this normal even after 9 months? I'm sure I'm not pregnant tho.....please help.. I'm worried. Thank you.

Thanks for your question. I'm not a doctor so I recommend that you get a 2nd opinion other than the doctor you went to. Abortion can have some side effects that you don't expect. Your system could have had some problems from the abortion. Is there reason that you are taking birth control pills because in my opinion, this could cause more irregularity in your body and cycle. I would recommend finding a good doctor (maybe a prolife or natural doctor) who would understand the dangers of birth control pills.
