Abortion and Future Pregnancies: Potential Effects & Fertility Concerns
QuestionI am 27 and I had an abortion when I was 17. I then got pregnant and had my son at 21. I got pregnant again two years later and had another abortion. Since then I have not been able to get pregnant again. With all three pregnancies I got pregnant the first month of unprotected sex. But me and my husband now have been trying for almost a year and I haven't been able to get pregnant yet. Could I have suffered a problem from the last abortion?
AnswerHi, Kesha,
Thanks for your question. I'm sorry to hear about your difficulty conceiving. I wish I could help you, but I can't guess what might be the trouble. Yes, you could have some scar tissue from the abortion, but that is unlikely. Perhaps it's your husband (low sperm count, etc), or perhaps it's nothing at all. This is a question that hopefully your gynecologist can help you with.
Sometimes it just takes trying to concieve. My friend and her husband welcomed their first child on Sunday morning after 2 years of attempts to concieve. So perhaps nothing is wrong at all! I know it's frustrating, but hopefully your doctor can give you some insight.
I hope you concieve soon. Sorry that I wasn't able to help.
