Pregnancy After Abortion: Risks and Morning-After Pills

Question
A friend of mine had an abortion on the 14th of march and she told me that she had an intercourse with her husband right after that. She told me that she had taken morning pills 3 times during that week. She said she's kind of allergic to condoms and that's why they don't use it.Does she have chances to get pregnant again right after the abortion and taking morning pills?Thank you

Answer
Hi, Lilly,

Any time a nonpregnant woman has intercourse, or the man approaches her body in that area, there is a chance of pregnancy. The only complete preventative for pregnancy is abstinence.

Morning pills are strong hormones. It would be best to find something that won't be as disruptive of her body. Condoms are not very reliable anyway, so not relying on them is a good thing. Another thing she might investigate is natural family planning. If she charts reliably, she can usually know when she is at risk of pregnancy. Other times, she can have relations without major concern. Charting is essential. Here is a site about NFP:

Obviously, a woman has a right to have intercourse with her husband. So abstinence isn't really an option (even though in a few cases, that's what people do).

If she doesn't want to try NFP, she should talk to her doctor about the best and SAFEST way for her to prevent pregnancy.

You're welcome. I hope this helped.
