QuestionHi Pat,
Earlier today I just went in for my follow-up after having an abortion. The procedure was done 2/26/08 so from today it's been 5 weeks. A few days ago I got my period which seems to be normal-not heavy. However, when I went in for my follow-up today I was told the pregnancy test/s came up positive-which really has me worried. I also drew some blood and from what I have read may be the best indicator? I just don't understand how this may be possible when I am on my period. I have had intercourse with my boyfriend, with a condom, since the procedure. What do you think? I really don't want to have to go through all this again. Thanks for your help.
AnswerHi, Julie,
Sorry for the delay. I was gone overnight.
It is entirely possible you are still pregnant. Sometimes they miss the baby. The only way to know for sure is to go to the doctor, and from what you are telling me, you have already done that. The only thing you can really do is wait and see.
If you don't want to go through all this again, don't! Go to a doctor who will take care of you both. The fact you are bleeding with a positive pregnancy test probably means that something isn't quite right.
Condoms are not at all reliable. The failure rate is around 20% for pregnancy within a year. You may be lucky if you use a condom once, but as you well know, people don't use a condom just once.
I hope things turn out well for you. Let me know, and stay safe!
