Joint Pain After Miscarriage: Possible Connection & What to Do

Question
Dear Vanessa

Greetings.

I am married for a year. I had a missed abortion at 7 weeks. Recently i had another missed abortion again at 7 weeks and reason given as blighted ovum. I have regular periods. My weight and height are proportionate. However, there is a general pain about my joints, esp. knee, elbow and shoulder joints. Very often a crackling sound escapes either of the joints while i am involved in physical work. Does this have anything to do with my abortion? What does this indicate?

Thank you ever so much for your time and patience.
Warm regards
K.G

Answer
Hi there kg

Thanks for the question. I am not a doctor but a blighted ovum basically means conception occurred but the baby did not develop. It is considered to be an accidental thing that sometimes happens and that there is usually no reason for.

Have you ever had your joint pain checked by a doctor? I would say it is unlikely the two are related but it still must be uncomfortable for you to have that joint pain so I would suggest getting it checked out. Joint pain can be a number of different things and without knowing further details such as where in the joints, how often and how long you have had this it is hard to say what it is.

Some women do miscarry or have a missed abortion a couple times before they conceive and have a successfull pregnancy. If however you have three or more then it would be wise that it is further investigated to see if there is a reason that this is happening.

I hope that my answer was helpful in some way and good luck in the future.
