QuestionI took misoprostol and mifeprex on october 17. I bleed for a little over a week and I am unable to make it to my follow up appointment for an ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy was terminated. So i'm wondering how long do I have to wait before I can get accurate results on a pregnancy test?
AnswerHi, Vicky,
Nobody knows how soon you can take a pregnancy test. The reason is that abortion disrupts a woman's hormones, and there is no telling how soon they will return to normal. It varies from one person to another. Nobody can give you the answer to that question over the internet, not even a doctor. And a positive pregnancy test at any given point can mean one of several different things anyway. That early, ultrasounds are also iffy. I assume you took these medications before you were 49 days along. They don't work at all after 49 days, and the closer to that point you get, the less likely they are to work.
See if you can reschedule your ultrasound appointment. This is important because if it didn't work, provided the first set of pills did work, they need to do a surgical abortion to prevent infection.
Any abortion is risky and dangerous, so I am hoping you are OK.
Let me know what happens.
