Post-Surgical Abortion Recovery: What to Expect
QuestionI had a surgical abortion one week ago today. (march 28) the procedure was really easy and all my pregnancy symptoms went away right after the procedure. The day of the procedure I had very little bleeding which was dark red and a brownish color. About 4 days after I started having really bad cramps For the whole day and into the night I took my pain medicine and put a heating pad on my stomache and the cramps subsided. Also on that day I started bleeding very lightly , but it was red blood looking like new blood..... For the next 3 days I have had light cramping and bleeding bright red blood but no clots and not a lot of bleeding.....Also the last. Couple days I have had a bad headache and felt a little light headed... No fever Is this normal or should I go to the emergency room as the clinic I got the procedure done at is 3 hours a way?
AnswerMake sure you are drinking enough fluid and eating well with the pain medication. If you are taking Ibuprofen, it can cause nausea. The bleeding pattern seems normal. Stay active, use a heating pad. If you are not soaking more than 1 pad in an hour then this could be normal. You should call the facility first before going to the Emergency Room.
