QuestionI had a medical abortion about 2 weeks ago. I went back to the doctor today to have a pregnancy test to make sure everything went ok. The test showed that I was still pregnant so they did an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that I WAS NOT pregnant. But the doctor said that I still had a clot in my uterus. She gave me 2 more pills to insert in my cheek to pass the clot. It seemed a bit rushed to me since I know that these things take time. After reading all of the questions/answers it seems that sometimes it takes longer to pass the clots than 2 weeks. I don't want to put my body through the agony of the pills again. I'm thinking I should wait longer and 2 weeks isn't enough. Any thoughts would be so helpful.
AnswerHello, Danni,
You didn't tell me how far along you were. Those pills are dangerous, so I don't recommend you take any more of them. If you were past six weeks from your last menstrual period, there is a good chance the pills simply did not do what everyone hoped they would. That "clot" could easily be a living baby. If you went back to the same person who supplied the pills, please keep in mind that this person may not want to admit anything went wrong. Furthermore, it is very common to have a positive pregnancy test this soon after an attempt at abortion, regardless of the outcome. And an ultrasound may show that the uterine lining has largely been shed, but that doesn't mean you are no longer pregnant.
Abortion is bad medicine. Anybody who would do one on a healthy woman with a healthy pregnancy does not have the woman's best interests at heart. It's all about the money.
Women are all individuals, so what an individual woman's body will do is anybody's guess. I don't think there is any kind of timetable that would say a woman has to pass a "clot" by such and such a time. An abortionist would be likely to tell you it's a clot even if she suspects the baby is still alive. She will probably insist you go through with a surgical abortion at some point. You really need to go to someone else. There are organizations in Nevada that can provide you with a referral to someone who will be honest with you. If it turns out you are still pregnant, he can advise you what to do, but I would urge you not to hurt your body anymore. You really deserve better. Abortion is very dangerous, and can cause permanent damage. So if your baby is all right, be thankful you are being given a second chance to make a full recovery with no likelihood of long term damage to your body. If you are unable to care for your child, the organization can help you with other options, and they can help meet your needs if you want to parent this child.
