QuestionQUESTION: I'm 15 years old and 2 months pregnant. I'm prolife all the way but my mom is forcing me to get an abortion. Is coerced abortion legal in florida or do I have the right to say I want to keep my baby?
ANSWER: Jameela,
In my opinion, forcing a teenager to get an abortion is child abuse! Supposedly, coerced abortion isn't legal anywhere, and probably even the ACLU would go to court for you! Believe it or not.
Do some research online and find out about all the dangers. Ask your mother if she is prepared for the possibility an abortion could kill you. Does she really want to inflict all the damage on you that abortion could cause? Is she prepared for the possibility you might commit suicide? These are all dangers.

Find a local pregnancy center and talk to them immediately. If necessary, go to a women's shelter until things get sorted out. Another thing you can do is find a pro-life lawyer who will file a petition for a protective order. You can also talk to the child protection people, but that option is risky.
Wish I had time to write more. I can go into a lot of detail on the risks. Perhaps I will get a chance later.
Shame on your mother!
I will pray for you and your baby.

QUESTION: Ok im having my doctors visit tomorrow. I dnt know what its for, im hoping not abortion. But do I just come out and tell my doctor that i dnt want an abortion? How should I go about it?
ANSWER: OK, I looked up Florida law for you. Show this to your mother; tell your doctor you DO NOT WANT an abortion. It is illegal for him to do an abortion on you without your consent. Don't consent! Good luck!
390.0111 Termination of pregnancies.--
(3) CONSENTS REQUIRED.--A termination of pregnancy may not be performed or induced except with the voluntary and informed written consent of the pregnant woman or, in the case of a mental incompetent, the voluntary and informed written consent of her court-appointed guardian.
(a) Except in the case of a medical emergency, consent to a termination of pregnancy is voluntary and informed only if:
1. The physician who is to perform the procedure, or the referring physician, has, at a minimum, orally, in person, informed the woman of:
a. The nature and risks of undergoing or not undergoing the proposed procedure that a reasonable patient would consider material to making a knowing and willful decision of whether to terminate a pregnancy.
b. The probable gestational age of the fetus at the time the termination of pregnancy is to be performed.
c. The medical risks to the woman and fetus of carrying the pregnancy to term.
2. Printed materials prepared and provided by the department have been provided to the pregnant woman, if she chooses to view these materials, including:
a. A description of the fetus.
b. A list of agencies that offer alternatives to terminating the pregnancy.
c. Detailed information on the availability of medical assistance benefits for prenatal care, childbirth, and neonatal care.
3. The woman acknowledges in writing, before the termination of pregnancy, that the information required to be provided under this subsection has been provided.
...
(c) Violation of this subsection by a physician constitutes grounds for disciplinary action under s. 458.331 or s. 459.015. Substantial compliance or reasonable belief that complying with the requirements of informed consent would threaten the life or health of the patient is a defense to any action brought under this paragraph.

QUESTION: You said it is legal for him to do an abortion? I just got back from the doctors. I didnt say much cause I was crying most of the time. My doctor actually sided with my mother and that really hurt because I'm the patient no matter what age I am. But I'm 9 weeks and at 5pm I have to go in again to see if the baby has a heartbeat. If it does my mom is going to make the abortion appointment. She's keeps saying that I'll just have to hate her. At this point I dont think I want to live through an abortion. Maybe I'm suicidal a little bit but I'm praying on it. Another thing is my doctor doesnt do abortions so she sent us to another doctor. And I dont even think they have a womens shelter where I live, Miramar FL. And I leave for vacation tomorrow. So where do I go from here?
AnswerHi, Jameela,
No, I'm saying it is NOT legal for him to do an abortion on you without your consent. Don't sign anything! Don't even WALK to the car to go to an abortion appointment. Make them carry you. That's assault, by the way. CALL your local crisis pregnancy agency and tell them what's going on! When I get a chance, I'll look up where Miramar is located, and tell you where your closest center is. It will be sometime today, hopefully immediately (depends on whether my internet connection goes down for the afternoon before I get to it.) Do you think she intends to have you get an abortion before vacation? I don't see how there is time!
As a last resort, CALL THE POLICE!
I'll get back to you. Hang in there.
Back already. There IS a center in Miramar (and two in Hollywood). Here:
