Understanding a Missed Abortion: Symptoms, Causes, and Options
QuestionI am about 7 weeks pregnant. I have had 3 ultrasounds. The first one was after having some bleeding. The Dr. found a subchorionic hematoma which she described as big and I was measuring at 5 weeks with no sign of fetal pole. I went back a week later and the Dr. found a fetal pole but no heartbeat. I went back today (a week later) and there was no growth in the fetal pole and still no heartbeat. She told me the pregnancy is not viable and that I will miscarry naturally or she can do a d and c. I still feel pregnant and don't want to be hasty in my decision. With the information I've been given do you agree fully with the diagnosis of missed abortion?
AnswerDear Cecelia
I agree with your doctor in the diagnosis of missed abortion. As for the symptoms of pregnancy you experience, this is quite normal and may last up to 4 weeks after losing the pregnancy and before evacuation. Once a d & c is performed, these symptoms will regress.
I wish u a better luck next pregnancy.
