Post-Misoprostol Abortion: Absence of Menstrual Cycle - What to Expect
QuestionOn Sep.17 "09" I took 400mg of Misoprostol and within about 6 hours had regular bleeding and passed what appeared to be the fetus. I only had bleeding for 2 days then it stopped completely. I had no menstral cycle at all in October and still have not had one. Is it possible that it was incomplete?
AnswerDear Tanya,
It is definitely possible that the abortion was not complete. Unfortunately, this is common with misoprostol abortions. The success rate is only about 80%. The best thing to do would be to take a pregnancy test. The most reliable urine pregnancy tests have 2 lines, not words. It should be negative by now. As long as the pregnancy test is negative, there is nothing to be concerned about. It is common and normal to have a delayed period after taking misoprostol to end a pregnancy.
