Post-Abortion Complications: Understanding Blood Clots and Severe Cramping
QuestionI had an surgical abortion 6 days ago [11.10.09], and the next day I had felt fine. I didnt bleed very much until 3 days later [11.13.09]. The blood flow slowly increased and I had mild cramping. The following day I had woke up to more severe cramping... I had assumed it was normal. Later on that evening, the cramping was still very uncomfortable, and getting worse and worse. I had noticed that I had been passing a large amount of dime sized clots all at the same time. As soon as I replaced the pad, I would have to change it again. I wasnt really bleeding heavily, it was just a TON of clots, which had subsided to regular bleeding by the next morning. However, I still haveterrible cramping and abdominal pain. Is this normal?
AnswerHello, dariana,
Having an abortion isn't normal. Because you have so many clots, it seems to me you may be getting body blood, which may mean that your uterus has been perforated or damaged in some other way. Also, that kind of cramping doesn't seem common to me. After a pill abortion, yes, but you had a surgical abortion. I recommend you go to a doctor (not the person who did the abortion) and have your uterus checked out. If you think the bleeding is excessive, or you start to bleed heavily or have a hemorrhage, if you can get some cayenne (red hot pepper) into your body, that may be very helpful. You can either eat spicy food (provided it's red hot pepper) such as Mexican food, or you can take it as a supplement. If necessary, have someone take you to the emergency room. Please let me know how you do. Take care, and don't take any more chances with such dangerous surgery.
