QuestionHi there. So I had an abortion in November of 2009, I had a rough time with it and it was extremely painful, but afterwards everything seemed to be going back to normal, the bleeding was getting lighter and cramps weren't very bad. Then about a week after it, I was walking (only 4 or 5 blocks and slowly) when all of a sudden it felt like I had just gotten my period (started to feel like constant leak). It didn't stop though and started getting worse and worse, when my boyfriend picked me up and we got home, there were clots everywhere on my pad and I had to keep it steady or else stuff would tip off the pad and fall on the floor (sorry if thats tmi) and I felt like I had terrible menstrual cramps mixed with cramps from diarrhea. About an hour later the cramps started to subside and the bleeding went down again. When I went to my Doc about a week and a half later for my check up, he said everything looked fine inside but my HGC levels hadn't gone down quick enough. He had me get a blood test a week until they did. At my annual exam this year he said everything looks fine, but I'm not on birth control and have been having unprotected sex for the past 6 or 7 months because we're ready now to have a baby. Every month it feels like I could be pregnant but I'm not. So my long winded question is, could my Doc have missed something and could the abortion have done anything to affect my fertility? PS. I had a medical abortion at a clinic, not the abortion pill.
AnswerAriel,
I am Dr Shan, not hi there.
You do not state how many weeks you were pregnant when you had your abortion.
Normally an abortion does not affect ones fertility. (some women have 10 or more abortions
to prove that! )
ObGyn docs do not interfere before you have tried to get pregnant for at least two years.
Have daily intercourse from day 10 till day 14 after the first day of your menstruation.
before and after that small interval chances to get pregant are very much lower.
Patience can help you. No worry !
bests,
Dr Shan
