Post-Abortion Symptoms: Bleeding, Discharge, and Delayed Period - Seeking Medical Advice

Question
QUESTION: doctor, i have had an abortion on 15th december 2011. then i got my periods on the 21st and dried up around the 25th. then i had sex with my partner ten days after the abortion. we used the pullout method. but i bled a little a couple of days later. i have not had sex since. but it's the 22nd of january and i still didn't get my periods. moreover, there is some white discharge(without smell) everyday and i have a light pain in my lower right back.
i took a pregnancy test on 18th jan and it was negative.
i am really panicky. do i have an infection? or am i pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy or what? please help. will be grateful to you.

ANSWER: Dear Ellie,

Yes, you could have an infection from the abortion. You must go to a doctor and get a checkup. When a woman has an abortion, she is usually directed to come in for a post abortion checkup about 2 weeks after. Did you have that?

Also, you should know that the pullout method is not really safe in preventing pregnancy. All birth control methods are not 100% safe. If you get pregnant again, what will you do? Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and let me know what is happening. If you have any post abortion healing problems such as mental, emotional or spiritual, please let me know. I provide free post abortion healing counseling online.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
