QuestionI had sex for the first time in over a year Dec 5th. I usually start my period right around the fifth. But, I still haven't started. I was very careful and used a condom and he pulled out as well. I have recently started working out a lot harder. Could this have a factor on my delayed period? Should I go get a HPT?
AnswerHello, Jay,
Condoms and pulling out don't work. If you believe you were being careful, someone has fed you some false information. While a woman may be "lucky" and escape pregnancy on just one occasion, there is definitely a failure rate. You don't even know if the condom had defects or not. And equally obviously, all it takes is once.
Working out a lot harder CAN affect your period, especially if you're not getting the nutrition you need to sustain it. If you have cut back on fat in your diet, this can cause such a problem as well. You need animal fat to make hormones that produce a period. A vegetarian diet can interfere with a woman's cycle. I have seen this for myself. Stress can also delay a period.
At this point, you should be able to test with a pregnancy test. If it's negative, test again in a week. Let me know if there is any other way I can help you, and let me know what you find out.
