Answer
Hello, kimberly,

I was too tired to say much last night, and I hope they will send you another notice, because I would like to tell you more.

There are several ways abortion can cause a woman not to be able to conceive again. One way is if scar tissue forms over the openings of both Fallopian tubes. Another way is if a woman gets an infection from the abortion, or develops pelvic inflammatory disease.

You can learn more about how your body is functioning by learning to recognize when you are fertile. A woman cannot use drug hormones with this method. A woman who is ovulating has mucus from the cervix that is transparent and slippery, and stretches like raw egg white. You can learn more by going to this web site:

http://www.fertilityuk.org/

If you know when you are fertile, you can also try to have sex during that time, and the chance of pregnancy is increased (you won't get pregnant if you aren't fertile).

The doctor should test your hormones to see if they are abnormal in some way. Any kind of abortion disrupts a woman's hormones.

There are probably some reasons a woman who has had an abortion will never get pregnant again, that they won't be able to discover. And some women only get pregnant once, for whatever reason.

I hope this helps. The rest of my message is below.

Unfortunately, about 10% of the women who have a surgical abortion will never conceive again. What effect a pill abortion has on a woman's fertility has apparently not been studied.

I would recommend you definitely go to a doctor. Five years is long enough to try without finding out what the problem is.

Obviously, smoking isn't helpful, but lots of women who smoke have children. It's not good for their respiratory system if their mother smokes during pregnancy, and the baby will not weigh as much at birth, and yes, it can lower fertility. But given the fact that you have been trying for five years, I doubt if the smoking is the problem. But you should really seriously quit. Since tobaccos are formulated to be highly addictive, it won't be easy, but plenty of people have quit. One caution: if you do quit, don't think you can try just one. If you do, you will be a smoker again.

I hope you are able to find an answer. Please keep in touch and let me know what happens, and take care.
