Delayed Period After Surgical Abortion: What to Expect
QuestionHi,
I had an abortion through suction aspiration when i was approx 8-9weeks pregnant. After the abortion I had slight bleeding for one to two days, and one month later I had some brown looking vaginal discharge, but most of it is white and looks like vaginal mucus. However, it is already almost the beginning of the 9th week after my abortion now, but I am not getting my period. I had sex a few times after the abortion, but always using extra safe condoms, and there is no leakage. I have some cramps in my abdomen sometimes, but I am not sure whether it is gastric pain or menstrual cramps as they are not painful or last long enough. I am also having quite a bit of vaginal discharge, the beginning of which is clear and jellylike, after which (now) it's thick and white discharge that flows out which feels like my period but is not. Please help me. Thanks.
AnswerYou should take a pregnancy test. If it is negative then just wait for your period. The discharge may be signs of an infection like chlamydia. It can cause pain and camping. You should go an have an examination. This also could be due to a retained corpus luteum cyst which can cause pain and cramping. An ultrasound will detect a cyst.
