Post-Abortion Complications: Heavy Bleeding & Potential Surgical Intervention - Seeking Medical Advice

Question
My name is Tess, I really ask You for help. This is my situation:
I had my last period on 20.09.2010. I had intercourse on 5.10.2010, the condome broke but I did nothing. On 28th of October I got known that I was pregnant. On 29th I took vaginally misoprostol and RU486 (I was told that those were that kind of pills). But nothing happend, no bleeding, no pain, I was still pregnant. On 16th November I took misoprostol and RU486 again vaginally, but the dose was stronger (I was told so). I started bleeding, a lot of blood, clots, pain. After few days I felt better, I still had the blood, but I thought that I wasn't pregnant, but the person who gave me those pills told me to wait 2 weeks and then go to the doctor to make ultrasonography to check if everything was ok. I did it on 3rd December and it occured I was 10 week pregnant. (I was still bleeding, but no so much). On 10th Decemebr I had the surgical abortion. I was bleeding a lot and I had a big pain, but the doctor who did the abortion said I should not worry and  expect to bleed for about 2 weeks. I didn't do sport, didn't carry anything heavy, I did what he told me. I was bleeding, everyday less, but still even in January. I went to the doctor on 14th January and he told me everything is ok, that it's not blood, just dirt after bleeding, that I should start taking contraceptive pills as soon as I get my menstruation period. On 16th January I started bleeding with the fresh blood but I wasn't sure if that was my period, because I was bleeding for so long. The next day I wasn't bleeding at all and on 18th January I got my period (I was quite sure, I had the same symphtoms as usual when I get it). And I started taking the contraceptive pills. I was still bleeding for 5, 6 days, I was worried, that the bleeding did't stop due to the contraceptive pills, but I thougt it was because of the abortion and my menstrual cycle isn't normal now. On 24 and 25 January I wasn't bleeding, just the dirty discharge and I thought it's going to finish. And 26th I started bleeding again...No pain, but fresh blood with clots...I don't know what's going on. Why I started bleeding again? Why the contraceptive pills didn't stop the period? I used to take the same pills for 3 years (but I stopped one day) and they always worked like after 3 days the period stoppes. Is everything ok? I have to say I had no sex during that time, and on 25th and 26th I got very high fever, but I have the flu now, so I don't think this may have something in common. Please help me. I called that doctor and he said that I don't have to worry. But I can't call anybody else and Im very worried. I really want to stop bleeding. It's over 2 months everyday bleeding.

Yours sincerely
Tessa

Answer
Hello, Tessa,

I don't need to tell you that that kind of bleeding can seriously harm your health. So one way or another, it needs to stop. One thing you can try now that works for some people is to take cayenne or get red hot peppers in food. I realize that you probably don't normally eat red hot peppers, but in this case, it could help. Eat them regularly, or take a supplement, until the abnormal bleeding stops. "Dirty discharge" is actually either old blood, or the result of an infection. If you still have any tissue left in your body, this can cause the bleeding to continue. Also, sometimes contraceptive pills will cause prolonged bleeding for some reason, even though they're supposed to control bleeding.

The pills you took stop the hormone that controls a woman's bleeding. That's a major reason for prolonged bleeding.

The doctor who supplied the abortions can get into trouble for doing abortions on you. Abortion is illegal in Poland. So he isn't going to admit he hurt you. I realize that you don't want to go to someone else, but you really need to see a decent doctor, not someone who will cause you grave harm. Abortion is dangerous. That's one reason it needs to be illegal.

Bleeding a lot hurts your immune system, so don't assume that you didn't get the flu because you had an abortion. Your body is weak. Make sure it really IS the flu and not something else more serious.

There should be an organization near you in Poland that can help you with finding a decent doctor. At present, I don't have access to my usual list of organizations, though I can email someone and ask. You can also go to a Catholic church and ask them to help you find an organization. These organizations exist to help pregnant women, but they will also help women who have had an abortion and can supply the name of a doctor you can trust. You may be able to tell the doctor that you think the pills are causing you to bleed (which apparently does happen with some women who have had a recent abortion), and you need help getting off the pills and getting back onto a natural rhythm. If you are still having sex, you need to stop.

You are also much more likely to have health problems in the future as a result of your abortion. You may have problems also with birth defects in your future children. The fact you didn't have a surgical abortion first may help, but I don't think there are any guarantees. You will HAVE to tell your doctor when you do become pregnant, that you have had abortions. This is necessary to help safeguard the health of your child. You will need to find a doctor you can trust for that reason as well. And you will be much more likely to get deadly breast cancer or auto-immune disease. You should not get mammograms. They can cause or spread breast cancer. If you can get them, get regular thermograms instead. If you take Vitamin D3 daily, this will also help prevent breast cancer. Start with 5000IU a day. You will need to have your blood tested to make sure you're not getting too much.

I am sure there are things I didn't talk about that you would like to know about, so please feel free to ask questions. Please let me know how you do. If you are not married, stop having sex. Don't even consider an abortion in the future. Please stay safe.
