QuestionQUESTION: Hi!! I was 6 weeks 3 days pregnant when i underwent a medical abortion. I took Mifepristone on 9th Feb, 2008 (200*3 mg) and Misoprostol orally on 11th Feb, 2008(200*2 mUg). I started bleeding heavily with huge clots within 10 mins of Misoprostol and guess saw the foetus passing as well. Bleeding became standard from Day 2 and kind of stopped on Day 6. However spotting followed soon and continued for another 9 days though that was very very light. I carried out Transabdominal USG by a senior in the field who confirmed that my uterus was clear of the foetus and debris as well.
However would like to add that whenever i get high with my husband( who stays abroad) , i start having spots which eventually goes away if i thoroughly clean the area. Is this normal and how long is it going to continue? Moreover i still feel a little bloated in the lower ab..which can again be out of fear..Iz it normal too?? Also would like to know whether transabdominal USG is as efficient as transvaginal one.
PS: I did take a course of antibiotics and Methergin as a guard ( was prescribed by the senior doctor who happens to be my relative)
ANSWER: Hi Roshni :)
Yes, what you are going through is normal. As long as the bloating doesn't turn into severe pain, in which case you'd want to check with a doctor. And usually the vaginal ultrasound is best to detect early pregnancies, like yours was, since at that point it probably wouldn't show up on the abdominal ultrasound. However, using the abdominal ultrasound to do the check up was probably fine. Just be aware if you have prolonged heavy bleeding, or start feeling bad pain, then it's best to go to the doctor, and if they do an ultra sound, to do a vaginal one.

QUESTION: Thanks a ton Dr. Danielle.
However i dont have any pain and there is no heavy bleeding. I did go for TVS to confirm the pregnancy but after the abortion i went for abdominal as still i was having bleeding.
Do you advice me to take a urine test now? Could the hcG be stil there and can i test positive because of that?
AnswerHcg can remain for 60 days after an abortion-so if you take a test, it could likely turn up positive. The only way to know would be through an ultrasound if you were or were not pregnant. It CAN signal a failed abortion, but since you had a check up and were cleared by the doctor, that wouldn't be the case.
