Post-Pill Abortion: Understanding Spotting, Pregnancy Tests, and Symptoms

Question
I had a pill abortion 1/18/12 started back on nuva ring 1/27/12. I was suppose to get my period 2/17. Today, 2/22 got light brown spotting that lasted @ hr. I still have a positive pregnancy test, and starting last week tingling breast and nausea. Is there a chance that I have gotten pregnant again?

Answer
Hello, rain,

If you are not having sex, no, there is no possibility of your being pregnant again. You might still be pregnant from before, however. If you are having sex, why? You deserve to be free of the fear of abortion.

All those poisonous pills and hormones will upset your period, and may cause symptoms that seem like you are pregnant. So there is really no way to tell with all that you have taken. In addition, you wouldn't be getting those kinds of symptoms so early. But unless you have the flu, you should be able to do something about the nausea (and maybe even if you have the flu). If you sip ginger tea or ginger ale (with real sugar, not artificial sweeteners), it should help.

You haven't told me how far along you were when you took the pills. I need to know that, and whether you are measuring from your last period, or from the day you think conception occurred. The pills only produce abortion during a very short period of time. If I have that information, I can tell you more.

I recommend you stop having sex and have the Nuva ring removed. You will be far better off. You will also be certain not to get pregnant. It is not in your best interests to keep on doing such harmful things to yourself. Please stay safe.
