Questioni am studying my first reflexology case study, she says she has no health problems, but i was very surprised at how soft and flexible her feet are, i can not feel bones very well, if i had not seen her walk i seriously would of thought she was unable to walk, this has left me very puzzled, i have studied about 40 feet but have never come across feet anything like this do you have any ideas. many thanks suzanne
AnswerInteresting but normal.
Certain genetic makeup would be the main cause in my mind. Cultures that have a lot of padding under there include native groups that really haven't traded it off for footwear most of the time.
Subdermal fat and fascia (which is like the plastic wrap around and around a sandwich) makes up the leathery pudge that you're describing.
A quick test for pitting edema (which is a bit more of a red flag) is to press into the swelling for 20 seconds; if your thumbprint is clearly left behind in an indent, it's more of a concern. But 'fat feet' happen.
If this doesn't answer well enough, bounce the question at me in more detail, K?
